Researching nitric oxide recently, I came across a reference to its use with sickle cell disease: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/05/110509161753.htm

Try to stay on B12 and folic acid.  Also, I have spoken to many individuals who had sickle cell anemia and they told me that they would take concord grape juice (sugar free) from a health food store when their blood count was low.
