I have recently been diagnosed with a rare illness called CIDP. This is an autoimmune illness that attacks the lining of the nerves and can lead to paralysis. The treatment I have been offered is IV Immunoglobulin but I feel this would be unacceptable to me. As a result I have been trying to research plasmapheresis. My question is would plasma replacement and synthetic albumin (ie no blood fractions at all) work with an autoimmune disease?
Secondly does anyone know if plasmapheresis would be available would be available in this form in the uk?
